The charming beer garden provided a good atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the room had a musty smell that was quite off-putting. I also found the bathroom amenities lacking and could not make use of the steamy train views due to the closed curtains for privacy. The uncomfortable bed made it difficult to get a good night's rest.

The local staff were amiable and excellent. The location very near the bus stop into Whitby was absolutely perfect.

booked the room with my grandson for 3 nights and had a very good stay. the standard twin room didn't seem appealing on photos but it was modern by a log burner stove. everything was simply first-class.

Delicious weekend getaway with trains
The warmth of the owners and delicious homecooked meals. Waking up to steam trains chugging by outside was a good surprise.
The tiny attic room left something to be desired. It felt cramped and the bathroom was not as appealing as hoped.

The decor throughout felt rather outdated, which may not sit well with those seeking a modern aesthetic. Wi-Fi only being available in the bar area was a bit of a hassle for anyone needing to connect while in their rooms. The hotel entrance lacked curb appeal, leaving an initial impression that didn't match the pleasant meals and rooms. Some guests expressed slight disappointment with limited breakfast variety and noticed cleanliness issues in common areas that could use a more diligent touch-up. Finally, occasional noise from nearby roads might bother light sleepers, and it seemed like there was room for improvement on room maintenance and signage regarding meal times.

Just back from a lovely stay, where the hosts Sean and Trish were pure dead brilliant! The food was braw, especially the steak pie—absolutely cracking! A wee downside was the decor being a bit dated, but who cares when you're munching on good grub?

We enjoyed exploring the local pubs and found a charming beer garden nearby. The food was spot on, with amazing options available. Just a heads up, the pub next door opens at 5pm, so plan accordingly. Totally recommend for a fun getaway with friends!
Imagine arriving during peak holiday season and finding it derelict-thankfully, we found a room elsewhere, but it was a bit stressful.

A Good Base for Exploring
Staying here allowed me to savor the chef's really good trout special, definitely a culinary highlight! The walking holiday nearby was invigorating, and I loved the warm atmosphere of the on-site bar. Pro tip, sample the real ale for a good post-hike treat.

The cleanliness of the rooms was a plus. I really enjoyed the on-site bar, especially after a long day outdoors. It offered a warm atmosphere to unwind and enjoy a drink. The home-cooked meals were a highlight, particularly the delicious steak pie that had generous portions and rich flavors. The decor felt a bit outdated, which took away from the charm the lovely staff tried to create. WiFi access only in the bar area was inconvenient, mainly because I wanted to catch up on a few things in my room. The limited menu options were another minor drawback, as I would have liked to see more diversity in the food offered.

The salmon leap offered amazing breakfasts, fluffy scrambled eggs and warm toast were a highlight. The quaint setting beside the river and the passing steam trains created such lovely scenery.

The room was clean and had an ensuite bathroom, a plus. Plenty of towels around too. It's not the most modern setup though-the decor felt dated. WiFi was only reachable in the bar area. It was decent for a cozy stay rather than anything fancy.
